Word to Obama: You’ll Have to Run on Your Record

It seems our president is slightly confused these days, so I thought it best to try and explain a few things. Mr. President, you will be running a general campaign against one of three Republican candidates who are seeking the GOP nomination – Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum or Mitt Romney. You will not be running against Sarah Palin. She’s not on the ballot, sir. Furthermore, Rush Limbaugh will not be on the ballot and generic, phony campaign issues (such as the so called “war on women”) will not be on the ballot either.

Not only will you be running against one of the three candidates mentioned but you will also have to run on your record as an incumbent president. Your approval rating is hovering near 41% according to a recent CBS/New York Times poll and you are losing supporters faster than Oprah’s new network is losing viewers. The rockstar popularity you enjoyed in 2008 is gone and only the media will pretend that it’s still alive and well. The middle class is shrinking, minorities are no better off under your watch, our deficit is ballooning to incomprehensibly huge levels and, as Sarah Palin has pointed out, we have not been this divided as a country since the Civil War.

The media assured us that your election would bring unification for the country, but it has done just the opposite. You are dividing American citizens along racial and economic lines through the relentless class warfare you wage in a manner that would make 20th century communists and fascists blush. It’s quite remarkable.

I raised the Sarah Palin reference because it is your campaign – not a Super PAC – that is using her comments in a new television ad. Now I’m sure that if there were any falsehoods and/or misrepresentations in the ad, you would be demanding it be pulled off the air, right? Because clearly you have a record of transparency and honesty with the American people – as you promised you would during your 2008 campaign and you’ve certainly held true to that, have you not?

Now let’s take a look at Governor Palin’s comments which were spliced from an appearance on Hannity and used in the ad, courtesy of your friend Jake Tapper – ABC News:

The ad shows graphics, in McCain/Palin campaign font style, reading: “MORE THAN FOUR YEARS LATER. SARAH PALIN AND THE FAR RIGHT SAY PRESIDENT OBAMA WILL BRING BACK RACIAL DISCRIMINATION … AGAINST WHITE PEOPLE.”

Palin is then shown saying the following: “Barack Obama has never been seen in the conventional, traditional way of we who would describe a man of valor … And his profession as a community organizer, what went into his thinking was this philosophy of radicalism … He is bringing us back, Sean, you can hearken back to days before the Civil War … What Barack Obama seems to want to do is to go back to those days when we were in different classes based on income, based on color of skin, why are we allowing our country to move backwards?

Back to the graphics: “THESE ATTACKS ARE WRONG AND DANGEROUS. IF YOU’RE TIRED OF IT, DO SOMETHING. DONATE TO THE TWO TERM FUND.”

I’m having trouble finding any fault with what Governor Palin said, Mr. President. I believe she didn’t go far enough in her characterization of what you’ve done to the country. Not only have you attempted to take us back to Civil War American society, in many ways, you have already succeeded as I pointed out earlier. I know that you are deeply wishing for a return to the glory days of 2008, when Sarah Palin was McCain’s veep pick…when your followers in the media and Hollywood maligned and impugned her…when supporters like Bill Maher said the most disgusting and misogynist things about Mrs. Palin – all the while holding yourselves up as the champions of tolerance, kindness, humility, and yes, woman’s rights – these, of course, being the allegedly core principles of the Democratic Party and the greater Left.

The double standard and blatant hypocrisy are too glaring to overlook, sir. You and your movement have failed to destroy Sarah Palin as you have failed to destroy Rush. The same movement you now lead attempted to use these same tactics against Ronald Reagan decades ago. They too failed. You are on the losing side and you are outnumbered. Many on our side may be less vocal, but you are most certainly outnumbered when it comes to ideology.

You are constantly touting your accomplishments to anyone who will listen so its curious that you have to run ads against a private citizen who is not running for any political office. I would encourage you to run on your record. Run on all the things you’ve accomplished since 2009 – the massive deficits, the stimulus spending, Obamacare. You have so much to be proud of.

Look at what progressivism has wrought: 8.3% unemployment, over two million jobs lost since you took office, a failed green energy agenda that has crashed and burned all over Europe and now here, a continuing demonization of the free market and corporate wealth. Mr. President, I don’t need to go on. You know your own greatness.

Newsflash: Sarah Palin hasn’t caused an interminable recession…you have. Your policies do not resonate with the heart of America. They might have resonated in the old Soviet Union, but in 21st century America these ideas are tired and worn out. They haven’t worked. They never will work. Your ideology needs to be relegated to the dustbin of history along with your first and only term as president.
