And Chelsea Clinton certainly does:
Clinton joined the Peacock network Monday as a special correspondent who will appear on “NBC Nightly News” and “Rock Center with Brian Williams,” contributing to the “Making a Difference” series that highlights extraordinary stories from ordinary people, according to the network.
“People who imagine and implement solutions to challenges in their own lives, in their communities, in our country and in our world have always inspired me,” Clinton said in a statement. “I hope telling stories through ‘Making a Difference’ – as in my academic work and non-profit work – will help me to live my grandmother’s adage of “Life is not about what happens to you, but about what you do with what happens to you.”
The famously private daughter of former Democratic President Bill Clinton and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will continue her work at the Clinton Foundation and her doctoral studies at NYU along with her new venture.
She previously worked at a hedge fund and hit the campaign trail in 2008 on behalf of her mother’s presidential bid.
I wonder if the OWS crowd – the ones bitching about the 99% who get shafted on a regular basis by the avaricious 1% – is even aware of this story. If so, does it bother them? Or do the Clintons get a pass because they are among the One Percenters who “feel our pain?”
A significant number of OWS whiners are college-age kids in debt up their eyeballs for student loans that will likely take decades to pay off. How many of them are journalism majors? How it must gall them to watch a young woman with positively zero journalism or broadcast news experience fast-tracked into a position ordinarily attainable only by those who paid their dues over a much longer haul marked by gallons of sweat and rivers of tears.
I’m inclined to agree with Rush Limbaugh’s take on Chelsea’s new gig: she’s obviously being groomed for a future in politics and her work with NBC will give her valuable training:
Let’s look at Chelsea Clinton here beyond what this really is. I mean, we know what this is. This is she can’t find a job. She wants to get into elective politics. She’s gotta learn to get good on television, it’s a must in this day and age. You have to be good on TV to be elected to anything. You take it from there. “Mr. Limbaugh, what are you saying? Are you saying that Miss Clinton is currently somehow not qualified to be –” No, Mr. New Castrati, you connect the dots here.
The family tradition is you gotta be in elective office. You gotta be good on TV. She has shunned the media. She’s wanted no part of the media. She’s openly stated she hates people in the media. Now all of a sudden she’s at the top of the media. She’s at the top of the ladder. She’s paid no dues. Not born on third base – born at home plate after the home run. She has not worked anywhere in journalism.
Will the OWS crowd take up this particular cudgel? I doubt it.
