Back in the Manly’s Republic days, I posted an article that excoriated Glenn Beck as a self-aggrandizing huckster and lachrymose fraud. In the process, I took a lot of heat from regular readers and Tea Party patriots who believed I had crossed the line and ventured into fratricidal waters. After all, it was Glenn Beck who championed the cause and the values of the Tea Party movement as one of its most ardent defenders. As it turns out, my instincts were right and Beck wasn’t so much a champion of the Tea Party movement as he was a clever charlatan who took advantage of the movement to increase his net worth .
Thus the following exchange with Judge Andrew Napolitano on the latter’s Fox News show:
GLENN BECK: This is ridiculous. It’s ridiculous. I issued a challenge to the Tea Party member.
JUDGE ANDREW NAPOLITANO: What’s the challenge?
BECK: The challenge is this, you read his record. You read his words.
BECK: Gingrich. Not just the happy parts like you read about Theodore Roosevelt. Look into his records. See what he believes. This man is a progressive. He knows he’s a progressive. He doesn’t have a problem with being a progressive. So, if you got a big government progressive or a big government progressive in Obama, one in Newt Gingrich, one in Obama, ask yourself this, Tea Party, is it about Obama’s race?
Because that’s what it appears to me. If you’re against him but you’re for this guy, it must be about race.
NAPOLITANO: It must be about race.
BECK: I mean, what else is it?
Now either Beck is serious and means every word of what he says or he’s just talking trash for the sake of controversy and closer attention. If the former, then it’s a sure bet he’s finally lost his mind (I still believe he may not be playing with a full deck).
If the latter, then it appears Beck really is nothing more than a poor man’s Donald Trump who promotes himself and his brand at every opportunity and on the backs of those who thought he was their friend.
Thus Andrew Breitbart’s recent statement that “…Glenn Beck is dead to me.“
